Happy Halloween Mummy Hand Pies!

Mummy Pie! Quince and Applesauce with Mountain Rose pink flesh Apples! Serve with a little vanilla bean ice cream and you are set!

Membrillo is a sweet, thick, sliceable firm paste made from quince that originated in Spain and makes a lovely base for this scary mummy hand pie. If you don’t have quince on hand you can find it in a specialty grocery store or Amazon! If you can get your hands on the pink flesh apples, it makes these just a little bit more gory!

I use Martha’s Perfect Pie Crust Recipe, but I grate the frozen cubes of butter instead of using a food processor. For the base I used a small cereal bowl to form the circle of pie dough. For the well I used a smaller bowl which cutout pie crust inside of the cereal bowl cutout. Use an egg wach to clue the well to the circle base. Fill with Membrillo and do about 3 layers of apple. Cut the scrap pie dough into strips, lay across the small pies using the egg wash to glue everything together. Give the Mummies one more brush all over of the egg wash and bake at 400 degrees for about 35 min. Crust should be golden brown and crispy. Serve with ice cream!
